Editorial standards

Last updated October 21, 2026

These are the standards we follow when we research, write, update and correct the guides on trueally.app.

Who writes the guides

Every guide is written by the TrueAlly Team. We do not publish individual author bylines. We do not claim medical or clinical review: no doctor or licensed clinician reviews our guides, and nothing on this site should be read as clinically approved.

How we research

We build guides on peer-reviewed studies and systematic reviews. Each study we cite links to its DOI or PubMed entry, so you can read the original yourself.

Recovery-community terms, such as "flatline," are labeled as community language. They describe what people report, not a clinical diagnosis.

How we handle limited evidence

Some questions have little research behind them. When the evidence is thin, mixed or drawn from a single small study, we say so, use hedged wording such as "research suggests," and avoid presenting one result as settled fact.

Not medical advice

Our guides are education and self-help, not medical advice, and they do not replace care from a doctor or licensed therapist. If compulsive porn use, low mood or anxiety is affecting your daily life, consider talking with a clinician.

If you are in crisis or thinking about ending your life, call or text 988 in the US to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, at any time.

Language

We write in warm, plain and non-judgmental language. Porn use is a struggle many people share, not a character flaw, so our guides avoid shame, moralizing and hype. We do not promise cures.

Updates

Each guide shows when it was published and, after a substantial update, when it was last updated.

Corrections

If you find an error or an outdated claim, email support@trueally.app with "Correction" in the subject line. We read every correction and fix the errors we confirm.

Independence

TrueAlly makes the app that some guides mention. That is a conflict of interest, so we disclose it here. Every guide is written to help you even if you never install the app.
